Amtrak P40DC

Game Introduction

Drawings by Jean Dennis-Bachman -A sorta brief history on the P40DC- The P40DC is a 4 axle diesel-electric locomotive used in the United States producing 4,000 horsepower, powered by a turbocharged V16 four-stroke cycle diesel engine. It is the first locomotive in the Genesis siris built by GE. In the 1990s Amtrak was in need of a new locomotive to replace the aging F40PH's, Amtrak had partnered up with GE (General Electric) to make a new passenger locomotive, GE produced the P32-8BWH to solve this problem but it was'ent enough. Instead of revamping on another freight locomotive to conversion to passenger service Amtrak and GE began scratch drawing up a whole new design. Then GE unveiled the AMD-103 (Amtrak Monocoque Diesel Rated for 103 Miles Per Hour) also known as Dash 8-40BP later being simplified to P40DC. One unique feature to the P40DC is that it has two strobes above the cab and an emergency flasher between strobes, these would be later removed in refurbishments and overhauls later. The P40DCs were proved more fuel efficient and more powerful than the F40PHs this lead to less locomotive being on a train at once. There were four major wrecks that the P40DC was involved in; The Big Bayou Canot Alabama Train Wreck of 1993 and also the 1999 Bourbonnais, Illinois, train crash, the 1996 Silver Springs Collision, and the 2018 Cayce, South Carolina Tragedy. The railroads that owned P40DCs are Amtrak, New Jersey Transit, and ConDOT. The P40DCs had a hight of 14 ft 4 in., a length of 69 ft 0 in, and a width of 10 ft. 0 in.
