In division, the expression used to divide is: A/B = C r The modular operator only takes the remainder of the division process (r): Example: 8 mod 3 is the equivalent of 8/3 with r. 3 divides into 8 two times. 8 - 6 = 2. 2 cannot be divided down anymore. So, 8 mod 3 is equal to 2.
