Variable Breakout

Game Introduction

Best played on a computer. The blocks are actual variable monitors. The title, paddle and ball are obviously fake variable monitors, and I use one for the game over message transition as well. Thanks to @kriblo, @colinmacc and @CoconutGator for helping me find bugs! The title music was composed in JummBox. The speech was produced using a modern JavaScript version of the 1982 C64 program SAM (Software Automatic Mouth), and added to the music using Audacity. The winning music and the sound effects were made in BeepBox. You can play around with SAM here: https://discordier.github.io/sam/ And read the SAM manual (for the Atari 400/800 version) here: http://www.retrobits.net/atari/sam.shtml I felt really clever, using variable monitors as pixels, but looking through my favorites, I discovered this super cool project by @Blobfish_Times doing the same thing nine months ago: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/504942439/ I can't believe I had forgotten all about it. Also, @ibm360 has made a breakout game using nothing but sliders: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/393488704

How To Play

Use the arrow keys (or tap the left or right side of the screen) to control the paddle, and try to break all the variable blocks. It is surprisingly difficult to win.
