mystery of love
Game Introduction
- the music is mystery of love, by sufjan stevens - art, story, and editing (including all of the code) is by me! in the original art, my real name is in the credits so i scribbled it out and put my username for privacy reasons (it looks like i stole this, which is very funny and i think a nice touch!) alas! the text engine was very slow and laggy so i have replaced it with hand-drawn lyrics. old description below: this project, in the sprite "lyrics", has the code for a neat little text engine. feel free to use it (with credit) in your projects! i created it a year or so back with the idea to use it rather than the speech bubbles for a game that i'm never going to get around to finishing. it's got some quirks (can't print more than one thing without deleting the previous, etc) but it's not too complicated to go through and mess with. i might go back and play with it on this project more, so keep an eye out! #animations
How To Play
it's been a little while! i've got some updates (like leaving scratch), but i'll talk about this project first! this stuff is all very tangential---feel free to just watch the project :] so, what is this? it's a little nearly-animated video that's the product of a lot of hours of work! i started storyboarding it almost exactly a year ago; the project was a sort of response to personal stuff at the time, and it was a lot of fun to turn my thoughts into an insane fantastical story. i have all these little pieces of concept art tucked away in sketchbooks that i might stick inside this project if you guys want to look at it! when school started last fall, i mostly forgot about it; i wasn't focusing on digital art and i didn't have the time to sit down and work on a project of this scale. finally, at the end of the school year, i had a little free time, and i finished sketching all the frames, just for fun! i told myself that at some point i'd get around to editing it all together, but it wasn't really a sure thing; the project felt pretty complete at that stage. and then! i hit my head last week :( i couldn't go to work or do any of the other things i'd planned for an entire week, and i suddenly had a whole lot of free time on my hands---free time that i haven't had in almost three years. yes, i know that with concussions you're not supposed to look at things (don't try this at home, etc etc) but i was bored out of my mind :( and i realized that i now had the time to finish this project! it feels very poetic and fitting that it's been a whole year; i can look back on the situation that made me want to make this little animation and laugh (kindly) at my past self for the drama of it all :D i do love the end result; i'm a little rusty at digital art, since it's been a whole year, and it's difficult to reconcile the art i make now with the medium that i used to use! i had loads of fun, though, and i can safely say that this is a pretty solid leaving-scratch project, even though it's two years overdue :) unfortunately i am just about nowhere else on the internet! besides my real-name presence on a popular photo-sharing website i don't produce content anywhere---so no links/usernames to share, alas! 'tis the last of the mystic-cat content ever :D (unless, by chance, you come upon my real life self, of course!) on to life updates! i am still making lots of art, though it doesn't look a lot like my stuff from two years ago; i got a 5 on ap art last year, though, which was very fun! i'm also still doing computer science and code related things---i got a 5 on ap compsci A two years ago, which was also fun, and i took some college compsci classes last year as well. even though i'm not active on this site anymore, the passions that i've developed as a result of my time here have carried over into other parts of my life! there are a lot of people from here that i don't talk to anymore, but if any of you guys see this, thank you for being part of my experience on here. this was loads of fun, and i love you all!
